Technology advances more and more every day. All businesses must stay relevant online in order to stay relevant in the real world. That means they must have search engine optimization. Search engine optimization means presenting near the top of the list of search results.

SEO has changed drastically just over the past 10 years. Today, Google is the most infamous search engine in the world. Almost everyone has heard of Google and it has now become a part of everyday life. Ten years ago, Google was still the most popular search engine.

However, Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, and Ask Jeeves were also still high on the totem pole for search engines. Ten years ago, it was all about meta tags and meta descriptions. Chiropractors would need to focus on creating strong meta tags and descriptions to rank higher on a list of search engine results.

Meta tags are the bits of text that describe what makes up a web page. The meta tags aren’t on the page themselves but are within the code. These tell search engines what the page is about. The meta description is the small blurb of information under a link on the list of search results. It tells the searcher what that page is about.

Today, it’s all about content and call to actions. Content is everything that is on the website page. The higher quality and more relevant the content is, the higher it will result in a list of search results. A call to action is a request for the searcher to do something. Whether that be “Buy”, “Find”, “Call now”, or more. Having a call to action will also improve the ratings on search results.

Ten years ago, link building meant getting links to your site from others, regardless of the quality. The more web pages you had your link on, the higher you rated on a list of results. Today, however, Google can determine spamming your link everywhere and can lead to you being dropped lower as a result. If Chiropractors are going to build links, it’s best if they have higher quality links. Quality over quantity.

Ten years ago, mobile SEO was not even thought of (the best-selling phone was the Nokia 1110). However today, mobile SEO is almost critical to being higher on the search results. In order to ensure that search engines will find you and index you onto their search results, Chiropractors now need to make sure that their websites can be opened on a desktop and laptop, as well as a tablet and mobile phone.
